“You’re fired” part 2

From recent information, Martin Redrado, (un)officially fired governor of the central bank of Argentina, has not been let inside the building (based on info in Financial Times, 27 January, 2010)

Two times lucky

BY the decision 70-30 the U.S. Senate re-elected Ben nernanke for the second 4-year term as the governor of the Federal Reserve System. You can read it for example here:

from NYT: “The 70-to-30 vote was the weakest endorsement ever extended to a chairman in the Fed’s 96-year history.”

and here is Alan S. Blinder’s friendly opinion about this fact:

To balance this news, here’s also a campaign started by Mike Shedlock (alias “Mish”) to audit the Fed.

Re-election of Bernanke is somehow similar to re-appointment of Mervyn King, the governor of the Bank of England. He had his slip withNorthern Rock, a commercial bank having problems already in 2007. A brief story from September 2007 here:

Perhaps, in these difficult to manage economic times, it’s good to give second chances.

Folly of forecasting…(from FT, January 18, 2010)

Forecasts are very important in macroeconomics. Very important for example in central banking. Ekhm… I have (tried) worked with forecasts and let me quote here Mr Montier (taken from Jonathan Davis, Financial Times) “Frankly, the three blind mice have more credibility than any macro-forecaster at seeing what is coming”

Jesli Justyna Kowalczyk trenuje

pomimo choroby, to i ja moge kontynuowac moje kilometrowe spacery z kijami.

Trzeba sie nimi zaprzec, by poczuc opor w ramionach. Ale o tym pozniej.

Zmotywowana przykladem Justyny

Kowalczyk postanowilam zmoc sie z przeciwnosciami pogody i ruszyc w trase.

Trasa to okolo 11 km, czas 1h27min. Zwykle 10km robie w 1h20min, wiec doliczajac stanie na swiatlach na przejsicahcdla pieszych, tempo moze byc. Aczkolwiek musze przyznac, ze sie zmeczylam.

Planuje wyczyn ten powtorzyc jutro. Piechota moze byc do lata, ale tez do smuklej sylwetki, wiec warto chodzic. Cel to 50km tygodniowo.

Raport zdam jutro, czy sie udalo.

Fernandez de Kirchner says: “You’re fired”

Argentina is in the centre of central banking interest, again. Country’s central bank chief, Martin Redrado has been dismissed from its position for refusing repaying country’s international debt.

In the history of Argentinian central bank, the “misconduct of central bank” was a common justification to let a governor go. It’s no difference in this story. This episode could be one of many similar in the past, if the President’s desire wouldn’t be expressed the way it was. It looks like there is a chance to keep the actual autonomy of central bank at current level thanks to the group of people opposing this dismissal and to an Argentine judge’s decision to keep Redrado on the post.

Redrado himself refuses to quit.

We’ll wait if the story for Argentina repeats again.
