The enter of the dragon!

Mario Draghi, the new ECB president has started his presidency with an interest rate cut. Considering average EMU inflation being higher than the target “below but close 2%”, what is the policy ECB having now? Promoting growth at the cost of inflation?

Goodbye Windows, Welcome Freedom!

Today is one of those great days you want to talk about, scream out loud and share with the rest of the world. I am installing Xubuntu and saying goodbye to Windows, a system that made me scream even louder than today but out of rage rather than happiness.
Hence, after changing my work tools step-by-step and choosing Macintosh (great but so expensive!), today I go for a free version of Linux.
Ps: Unfortunately, due to certain software items still available only for Windows, I am writing this message from my personal laptop with Windows Vista. I don’t know how on earth I have managed to work with the system that has been announced as a failure by its own producers.

Jackson Hole Symposium 2011

The Annual Economic Symposium takes place 25-27 August, 2011 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. This is the most fragile and mind-boosting place right now because it gathers many central bank leaders and plenty of important minds in the economic world. Markets await the speech of the governor Bernanke. Is it going to be pictured by another drawing like that one from last year’s journal The Economist? His speech scheduled today, 26 August, 10am ET. The Fed has already recently commit itself to keeping low levels of interest rates for the next 2 years. Hence, doubtful that the next round, QE3 is announced soon. Let’s tune in to the Jackson Hole economic news.

It’ all about sport, fool!

An interesting piece of news from Bloomberg: Aug. 16 (Bloomberg) — “Rutgers University forgave $100,000 of the football coach’s interest-free home loan last year. The women’s basketball coach got monthly golf and car allowances. Both collected bonuses without winning a championship.
Meanwhile, the history department took away professors’ desk phones to save money and shrank its doctoral program by 25 percent. After funding cuts by the deficit-strapped Legislature, New Jersey’s state university froze professors’ salaries, cut the use of photocopies for exams and jacked up student tuition, housing and other fees.”

The World Meeting of the Public Choice Society 2012

will take place in Miami. It is a perfect occasion to organize the World Meeting of European Central Punk, too. As Johnny Wasterwave pointed out, we can connect these two meetings of research and punk together.
For those interested I remind that a deadline for papers is sooner this year, and it’s November 15 (not, as usually, December 31). The exact place and date is: the Hyatt Regency Miami, 08-11 March, 2012.
Hopefully in Miami we’ll have a chance to hear the hit Frogs&Fries live!
